Dear Conference participants,
We are honored to cordially invite you to the jubilary 30th edition of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities which will be held in Croatia, 19-20 May 2022, in the beautiful city of Cavtat - Dubrovnik, located along the breath-taking Adriatic coast.
The event will take off with a reception at the Hotel Croatia- Cavtat during late afternoon and evening of 18th May 2022,and the gala dinner will be held on 19th May 2022. It is a great honour and privilege for the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency to host the Spring Conference for the first time, since this Conference is the most important forum for co-operation, strategic coordination and policies of data protection and privacy among European regulatory authorities. As we are all aware, we live in a data driven world. In order to realize the full potential of the digital economy; governments, the private sector, and civil society need to cooperate to achieve an appropriate balance that respects the fundamental rights of individuals and allows continued innovation and growth of evolutionary digital business models.
However, the more data is used in our everyday life, the higher the risks of abuses. Thus, it is crucial to ensure and enhance data and privacy protection. Data Protection Authorities play a key role in this important task. In these unprecedented times, every day there are new challenges for us ponder and respond to.
We have so much to learn from each other, and this also emphasizes why this Conference is such a valuable opportunity for us as a forum for exchanging ideas and advancing the privacy interests of our citizens.During the Spring Conference 2022, representatives of the data protection authorities will have the opportunity to share their experience and create new values, as well as to come into contact with experts in the field and to meet old and hopefully new collaborators and friends.
Cavtat is well known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage and the multitudes of top-class accommodations. In addition, it is only 15 km away from Croatia's world famous tourist destination of Dubrovnik which will be part of the cultural agenda that we are arranging on the second day of the conference on 20th May 2022.
This provides a convenient and memorable experience for both a top level conference and an unmatched experience outside of conference sessions. We will provide an extraordinary collaborative environment to discuss about lessons learnt from COVID 19 and to tackle common challenges like emerging privacy challenges resulting from the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence, mass surveillance by facial recognition and generating profiles, data transfers after Schrems II, EU approach regulating dark patterns etc.
We are fully prepared, excited and expecting to set the standard for high level conferences. Therefore, don’t miss this event!
We look forward to welcome you in Croatia next May!
